Turkish connection in foiled plot unsettles Germans

September 2007, Herald Tribune

This one goes out to Dr Liza Hopkins, who tried to sing us to sleep with a sweet lullaby about Turkish Muslims ...

"FRANKFURT: As Germans struggle to make sense of the terrorist plot foiled this week, they are learning that their good Muslims - the large Turkish immigrant population here - may not all be so good.

One of the three militants arrested Tuesday and accused of planning major bomb attacks against American and German targets is a Turkish man who lives in Germany, and security officials said Friday that three, and possibly more, of the suspects still being sought are of Turkish origin.

The Turkish dimension of the plot has shaken Germans, who have long taken comfort in the belief that their Muslim population, predominantly Turkish, was less prone to terrorism, or even radical Islamic ideas, than Muslim minorities in Britain, France and other European countries ...

There are, in fact, 2.7 million people of Turkish descent in Germany ...

The trouble is that established Turkish groups - which have close links to the Turkish state and were founded in the early years of immigration - are not attractive to third- and fourth-generation immigrants ..."

From Fritz to Abdullah, The Age, September 2007

"LEGALLY, his name is as German as they come: Fritz. To his confidants in the radical Islamic scene and alleged terrorist co-conspirators, he was Abdullah.

Fritz Gelowicz, 28, is in police custody, charged with leading a plot that, had it succeeded, could have surpassed the London bombings in its toll. That he is German and a youthful convert to Islam has only made it harder for his countrymen to grasp the accusation against him ...

Fritz Gelowicz found Islam as a teenager. Investigators say a German friend of Turkish descent named Tolga Durbin introduced Gelowicz to a radical form of Islam ..."

Did ya get that part in bold, Dr Liza? I didn't want you to miss it. How about those drums of hydrogen peroxide at the press conference, should I enlarge that image for you?

They do not reflect real muslims who come from among the people's itself and among the real life.Muslims are only enhanced to fight against those who occupy their lands, or are of face to face with a danger for their lives, properties or honors. In reality in Qor'an (Holly Book of Muslims) it's stated that the only acceptable religion is the Islam and other religions - that are also sent by the same God (Allah in Islam)- will not be accepted.Hence muslims are obliged spreading their religions all over the world, though not by killing or terrorizing the societies, but living their religion as per stated in Qor'an and in Sunnah (the life of the Prophet Mohammad) so pure that others may be attracted and accept Islam. This is the only reality that all humans must be informed about it.

I know little about Islam, but the more I learn, the more offensive so-called moderate Muslims are to me:

Sultan:
I believe, wrongfully, they were called moderate. I don't believe there is moderate Muslim. I believe they are ... Muslim in term of culture ... not in term of religion. Because, in Islam, you have to believe in every teaching as a Holy teaching you cannot change. You have to accept it the way it is, otherwise simply you are not a Muslim.

Spencer:
The Qur'an, on the other hand, quite clearly does teach believers to commit acts of violence against unbelievers -- see 2:190-193, 9:5, 9:29, 47:4, etc ...
... all of the schools that are considered orthodox teach, as part of the obligation of the Muslim community, warfare against and the subjugation of unbelievers ...

Trifkovic:
On the whole, Muhammad's practice and constant encouragement of bloodshed are unique in the history of religions. Allah's order to "kill the unbelievers wherever you find them" is an injunction both unambiguous and powerful ...
That Islam sees the world as an open-ended conflict between the Land of Peace (Dar al-Islam) and the Land of War (Dar al-Harb), which must be conquered by jihad, is the most important bequest of Muhammad to history.

Magaard:
“If it is correct that many Muslims view the Koran as the literal words of God, which cannot be interpreted or rephrased, then we have a problem. It is indisputable that the texts encourage terror and violence. Consequently, it must be reasonable to ask Muslims themselves how they relate to the text, if they read it as it is,"

Stenhouse:
'Apart from the thirteen years of the prophet's mission in Mecca, the history of Islam is indisputably a record of violence and power-seizure. As long as the prophet lived, force was used primarily for the purpose of spreading Islam and imposing it' ...

Muhammad's conduct demonstrates his understanding of the Quran's message.

If his understandings were correct, then all attempts by Islamic apologists to prove that Islam is a basically tolerant and peaceful religion fail when confronted by the Medina Sura and the indisputable facts of Muhammad's life and subsequent history of Islam.

If his understandings were wrong, then he was not a prophet, and Muslims have the problem of reconciling the alleged divine origin of the Quran with its myriad errors of fact, inconsistencies, anachronisms and many other defects.

To those who would claim the nature of Jihad and the militaristic aims of Islam are misunderstood by non-Muslims, we turn back a challenge that Muhammad repeatedly flung at his adversaries in Mecca: prove me wrong 'if you care about the truth'.

------------

Come back when you care about the truth. Otherwise, you're just one of the many 'moderate' Muslims who defend the indefensible.
